You just came back from a photo shooting session with your friends. Suddenly, you received 10 instant messages and SMSes asking you to send them their photos as soon as possible. Now what?
Sure you can fire up Windows Live Messenger and start sending one at a time. That would take ages though. You need something that lets you upload once, and it can be download many times. But not all email servers allow you to send over 2mb of file size. I know Gmail does not allow that. Let’s not forget you want to do it painlessly and for free.
So how? Here is how!
Second Best Choice – YouSendIt.com
You can access this website by going here http://www.yousendit.com.
Cons of YouSendIt
- Only 1 file at the time. So you have to Zip the files together.
- Maximum of 100mb each file
- Keeps asking you to signup if you click on any options that comes with paid account
Step 1. If you need to, zip up all your files into one big file. YouSendIt only accepts up to 100mb file size for each file, so make sure your file is within the limit.
Step 2. Enter the site.
Step 3. Enter the relevant information following the screenshot below. Careful not to click on anything else such as ‘Add another file’ or ‘Premium Delivery’. If you do that it will then launch a page asking you to sign up and upgrade your account to Pro account (requires money, of course).
Step 4. When done, click Send It. You will need to wait a while because the file that you have attached is being uploaded. If you close your browser before the file is uploaded, then nothing will be sent over. So do wait a while. (note: if it asks you to re-enter your email address at the From Email, please do so to avoid having to register and login)
Step 5. And you are done. However, your receivers have one more step to do. It will all be written in the email that they receive. Your receiver will have to click on the Download link in their email and arrive at YouSendIt’s page to download the file.
Favourite Choice – MediaFire.com
You can access this website by going here http://www.mediafire.com/.
Pros of MediaFire
- Up to 10 files can be uploaded at any one time
- Does not attempt to ‘trick’ you by asking you to register or upgrade to premium account
- Much friendlier to use
Cons of MediaFire
- It doesn’t work properly with Google Chrome
- Maximum 100mb each file
Step 1. Enter the website and click on the ‘Use Basic Uploaded’ link at the top right.
Step 2. Choose the number of files you want to upload. Then choose each file at the space provided. Its very easy.
Step 3. Click on the Upload Files to MediaFire button. A very friendly screen will appear showing you the progress of your upload. It even show you the upload speed and progress bar.
Step 4. When done, it will show you all the files that you have uploaded and give you the links to each of the files. This is where you copy down each link and email, instant message or SMS to your friends. (note: The link are sometimes called ‘Image Page URL’ or ‘Sharing URL’ depending of your file type)
Conclusion
We at Revotra.com prefer MediaFire any time of the day. It is friendly to use, fast and most important of all, does not require logins from the receiver’s end. MediaFire is an application that gets things done the easy way and straight to the point.

I also recommend Otengo. This application is a free download. It allows you to send unlimited pictures and videos seamlessly. No painful uploading or downloading. And the transfer works nicely, resuming from where it stopped if you disconnect the internet or shut down your computer.
2Large2Email is what I use and has served me well thus far.
