See, I am a great fan of Google. I have respected them since it was starting out with Google Search. In fact, I was one of the first few that made it 'famous' in college. Not much people heard of it, so a friend and I intro intro until everyone decides to switch. Heh Heh ..
But now Google Chrome.
Please do not think this is a ranting post about Google Chrome. It is actually the little things that I discovered and want to share it with the world and hopefully they'll hear of it and make necessary changes. Then and only then, it can stand amongst the best out there :) (no, I don't mean IE 7)
Etchics
First thing is the ethics, they had a deal with Firefox, so why come out with a new browser? Its not a sudden decision, it has been in construction for the past 2 years! Under Mozilla's nose!
Tabs at the top
Is it really that good? I mean .. if you were to switch from tab to tab, won't you wish the travel distance of the mouse cursor to be shorter? After browsing webpages for a while, you'll soon realise that you have to move your mouse more just to switch to another tab. Maybe they are encouraging us to use short cut keys?
Short cut keys
This is just one of the newly discovered problem. In BlogSpot.com and Google Docs, when you type, you'll want to bold your text once in a while, yes? Ok .. guess what you get when you click on 'ctrl-b' now? The bookmark bar at the top goes away and come back if you press again. Oops ..
Scrolling speed
Not sure about you, but do you realise that scrolling is way different than Firefox's? As in .. the steps are much further. This is especially obvious when you are using Google Reader. The reading experience is spoilt because the steps are too far, causing the eye to try to catch up. Tune it down to more smoother steps will surely help out lots here.
Inner scrolling friendliness
Nowadays, you'll always see a window within a window concept. Thats where you see a scrollbar within the same window that has a larger scrollbar on the outside. Lets call this Mother Window and Child Window. Firefox did a great enhancement for its Firefox 3, which is when you scroll within the Child Window, the entire Mother Window cannot be scrolled. This will remain true as long as your mouse is inside the Child Window.
But in Firefox 2, IE7 and Google Chrome 1, when you scroll within Child Window, and when your Child Window has been fully scrolled to the bottom, the Mother Window starts to move. Very annoying!
Finding for text
Finding doesn't work properly here. In FireFox and even IE7, their find option can find anything on the webpage including whats in a normal textbox. Google Chrome can't! Imagine that ...
Of course Google Chrome has all the good things it says it has. No doubt about that, so do not misunderstand that we are anti-Google Chrome. We are just voicing out the problems with Google Chrome and would love for it to hear its users and make changes to suit its greatest assets, us.
